Be clear on what you want.

A product or service must fill a need and your marketing must be relevant and meaningful to your audience. What would mean more to your dog – a treat or a book? Get what you want by giving people what they want.

Keep your eye on the ball.

Once you have determined what you need to say - be doggedly consistent with your message. Keep a laser sharp focus on the one thing you want people to know and remember about you. Sure, you want to shout everything great about your product or service, but just like your dog responds best to a short, clear command – people will get your message faster if you keep it simple. If you confuse or overwhelm them, they will lose interest quickly.
